Jim Lant has had highly successful careers across the areas of professional management, higher education and military service.

He has 25+ years experience in the private sector in enterprises ranging from a small family-owned business to public companies of $11B+ in sales. Jim has run extremely large departments of over 500 people as well as relatively small departments of less than 10.

 
His expertise covers nearly all disciplines, to include: Finance and Accounting; Marketing; Sales; Strategic Planning; Information Technology; Inventory Management; Merchandising Planning and Analysis; Customer Service; Call Centers; Quality Control/Assurance; Financial Planning and Analysis; Distribution Centers; and Supply Chain management. Jim has served at the Vice President-level and above in all of these disciplines. He has also run his own consulting practice, serving clients in both the private and public sectors.

Jim has advanced degrees in business and public administration, holding a B.S. in economics, M.B.A. in finance and an M.P.A. from Old Dominion University. He has earned a total 261 semester credit hours: 135 undergraduate and 126 graduate with 75 at the 700 level and above, and is a member of Mensa.

Jim has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Virginia; Old Dominion University; Saint Leo University; Strayer University and Tidewater Community College. The courses he has taught reflect his broad interests and expertise across all functional areas and include: Project Management; Probability and Statistics for Business and Economics; Contemporary Organizations and Management; Principles of Finance; Principles of Management; Principles of Accounting; Principles of Marketing; Principles of Salesmanship and Sales Management; Managerial Economics; Macroeconomics; Communications for Management; and Introduction to Business, as well as graduate-level courses in Public Budgeting Systems and Economics and Management.

He has 36 years service (he's not really all that old- he enlisted at a very young age!) in the U.S. Naval Reserve-six as enlisted and 30 commissioned. He advanced to Electronics Technician, ET3, as an enlisted member and to Captain (0-6) as an officer. His experience with the Navy included operational responsibilities in cruisers, destroyers and ocean minesweepers, capped by operational command as Commander, Mine Division One Two Three. In addition, he held significant staff positions in training/education, test and evaluation, and at Navy headquarters in The Pentagon. He held command/command tenure in every rank from Lieutenant to Captain.

Jim began his certification process for facilitator with PES in 2002 and is fully qualified with both the WE CARE and TEAMING programs. He is bringing his considerable experience to the Effective Management Program from Baylor University in 2003.
